Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read a BMI chart?
Find your height on one axis and weight on the other. The intersection gives your BMI category. Color-coded charts use blue for underweight, green for normal, yellow for overweight, and shades of red for obese categories.
What are the BMI categories on the chart?
Underweight: below 18.5. Normal: 18.5–24.9. Overweight: 25–29.9. Obese Class I: 30–34.9. Obese Class II: 35–39.9. Obese Class III: 40 and above. Each range has different health risk associations.
Is a BMI chart the same for men and women?
The standard BMI chart and categories are identical for men and women. However, at the same BMI, women typically have more body fat and men more muscle. Some health professionals use additional metrics (waist circumference, body fat %) for gender-specific assessment.
