Ideal Weight Calculator

Your ideal weight range is the weight window where your BMI falls between 18.5 and 24.9 — the WHO healthy range. This calculator shows you that range for your height, how far you are from it (if applicable), and a visual breakdown. Keep in mind that 'ideal weight' varies by body composition, age, sex, and fitness level — the BMI-derived range is a starting guideline, not a prescription.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is ideal weight calculated?
The healthy weight range is derived from BMI: for a given height, the minimum healthy weight = 18.5 x height(m)^2 and maximum = 24.9 x height(m)^2. For someone 170 cm tall, this gives 53.5–72.0 kg (118–159 lbs).
Is ideal weight the same for men and women?
The BMI-based healthy range is the same, but ideal body composition differs. Men typically have more muscle and bone mass, so may be at the higher end of the range. Women carry more essential fat. Formulas like Devine, Robinson, and Hamwi calculate different ideal weights for each sex — but BMI range is the most widely used guideline.
What if my ideal weight seems too low or too high?
The BMI-derived range is a population average. If you are muscular, have a large frame, or are very active, your healthy weight may exceed the upper end. If you have a small frame, it may be at the lower end. Use the range as a reference point and consult a healthcare provider for personalized guidance.
