GST Rate
%
Base Price₹10,000.00
CGST (9%)₹900.00
SGST (9%)₹900.00
IGST (inter-state)₹1,800.00
GST Amount₹1,800.00
Total Price (with GST)₹11,800.00
How it works
GST Exclusive (adding GST): Multiply the base amount by the GST rate and add it. For ₹10,000 at 18%: GST = ₹1,800, Total = ₹11,800.
GST Inclusive (extracting GST): Divide the total by (1 + rate/100) to get the base price. For ₹11,800 at 18%: Base = ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000.
The GST is automatically split into CGST + SGST (equal halves) for intra-state transactions, or shown as IGST for inter-state. All math runs in your browser.
FAQ
- What is GST?
- GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India's unified indirect tax that replaced multiple central and state taxes. It has four main slabs: 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. GST is split into CGST (Central) and SGST (State) for intra-state transactions, or IGST for inter-state transactions.
- What is the difference between GST exclusive and inclusive?
- GST exclusive means the amount does NOT include GST — tax is added on top. GST inclusive means the amount already includes GST — the calculator extracts the tax component. MRP prices are typically GST inclusive; B2B invoices are often GST exclusive.
- How is CGST and SGST calculated?
- For intra-state (within the same state) transactions, GST is split equally between CGST and SGST. For example, 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For inter-state transactions, the full amount is charged as IGST (18%).
- What GST rate applies to my product?
- Common rates: 5% for packaged food, transport; 12% for processed food, furniture; 18% for most services, electronics, software; 28% for luxury items, cars, tobacco. Check the GST rate finder on cbic-gst.gov.in for specific HSN/SAC codes.
- How do I calculate GST from an inclusive price?
- To extract GST from an inclusive price: Base Price = Inclusive Price ÷ (1 + GST Rate/100). For example, ₹11,800 inclusive of 18% GST: Base = ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000. GST = ₹1,800.
